Current Population Survey of Rural Pennsylvania

CSR conducts this RDD telephone survey annually for the Center for Rural Pennsylvania. The purpose of the survey is to provide information to the sponsor for use in developing public policies and programs to improve the quality of life and economies of rural Pennsylvania. The survey gathers detailed demographic and socio-economic data about rural households and comparative data on non-rural Pennsylvania households.

Harrisburg International Airport Marketing Surveys

Sponsored by the Susquehanna Area Regional Airport Authority and conducted continually since 2001, this mixed-mode data collection process involves an on-site passenger intercept survey of outbound passengers at the Harrisburg International Airport and a twice-annual RDD telephone survey of HIA's marketing region.

Attitudes of Baby Boomers toward Volunteerism

The Center for Survey Research (CSR) is conducting a random digit dial (RDD) telephone survey of 1,500 Pennsylvania baby boomers born between 1946 and 1964 on the topic of volunteerism. The goal of the survey is to investigate volunteering attitudes, preferences and volunteering behaviors of the Baby Boomer generation. The work is sponsored by the PA Department of Aging.

Maternity Leave Focus Groups

The Center for Survey Research (CSR) conducted focus groups of Penn State faculty and staff during 2008-09. Sponsored by Penn State’s Commission for Women, the goal of this research is to better understand how they balance the dual responsibilities of work and family in the year following the birth or adoption of a child.

Penn State Harrisburg Climate Assessment

The 2009 Penn State Harrisburg Climate Assessment was conducted by the Center for Survey Research (CSR) the campus’s Diversity and Educational Equity’s Sub-Committee on Climate Assessment. The purpose of this web-based assessment was to measure the current perceptions of campus climate. Similar data was collected previously in 2003 and 2006.

Disadvantaged Business Enterprise Study

Funded by the PA Department of Transportation, this multi-mode methods study involves conducting focus groups and a telephone survey of people from firms around the Commonwealth who do business with PennDOT on federally-funded highway construction contracts. These activities are part of a larger study performed in conjunction with researchers from Indiana University of Pennsylvania to determine if PennDOT’s goals for inclusion of minority- and women-owned firms awarded contracts are legally defensible.

Financial Literacy Education for Adult Learners in Community-based Programs

Funded by National Endowment for Financial Education, this project is a collaborative effort between the Center for Survey Research (CSR) and faculty from Penn State Harrisburg and Iowa State University. The purpose of the project is to identify techniques and strategies financial educators currently use to educate adults from underserved population segments in community-based adult financial education programs, and to determine the extent to which they are developing programs based on socio-cultural and transformative adult learning theory. CSR’s primary role is with sample frame and sampling plan development, instrument design, and survey administration.

Training Evaluation Survey

The Center for Survey Research (CSR) is developing a standardized training assessment questionnaire and hosting an online survey for the Office of Victims’ Services, Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency. The work is underway and will continue through 2010.

Produce Consumers Survey

The Center for Survey Research (CSR) is conducting a random digit dial (RDD) telephone survey of 600 adult Pennsylvanians to gather primary data on perceptions of produce. The work is sponsored by Michel Haigh, Ph.D., of the Penn State College of Communications. Three geographic sub-state regions (Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and rural Pennsylvania) are specified for inclusion in the survey.
